The quality you deserve.

Dear Subscriber,
Have you ever wondered why there are so many different names for leather, even though brands all claim to use “real leather”? Are you confused about the quality of leather in your handbag? You’re not alone! The term “genuine leather” has a broad meaning—it can refer to leather of very low quality or top-notch material. Knowing what you’re buying is key.
When leather hides are processed, they are split into layers. The top layer, called full-grain leather, is the strongest and most breathable. It requires minimal finishing to cover imperfections, so it’s usually sourced from animals with pristine skin (often from countries in the Northern Hemisphere). Our vegetable-tanned leather falls into this high-quality category.
Just below full-grain leather is top-grain leather. It has a thin top coating and its surface is sometimes embossed for texture. Top-grain leather is still of excellent quality and, like full-grain, it is durable, though more pliable. Around 90% of Julhs leather goods are crafted from this category—never anything lower.
Further down, the layers become more fibrous and require extensive treatment to be sturdy. These lower grades are less durable but serve certain needs at lower price points.
All of these layers—full-grain, top-grain, and the lower grades—can be labeled as “genuine leather.” Unfortunately, it’s not easy to determine leather quality just by looking. A good rule of thumb is to look for descriptions like lambskin, cowhide, or full-grain leather. However, no description is foolproof.
At Julhs, we promise all of our products are crafted only from full-grain and top-grain leather, ensuring the longevity and quality you deserve.
Best regards,
Team Julhs
