The Soft Unfolding: Introducing Tumbled Leather

Tumbled leather.

Textured, pebbled, and extraordinarily soft to the touch — this material marks a new chapter in the Julhs line.

This isn’t our first time working with textured leather.

In the early days, we used it occasionally — sometimes to make use of our suppliers’ remaining hides from seasonal batches. Those small runs grew on me. I loved the durability and timelessness of texture, though I always hesitated — a little wary it might lean too old-fashioned… maybe even a touch granny (sorry, grandmas) if not done right.

This summer, I visited several leather suppliers, reviewing countless hides in search of what would become our next it material. Among them, I found one that felt like home.

Tumbled leather — unique in its process, and unmatched in its softness.

Unlike most textured (or “pebbled”) leathers that are embossed with artificial patterns, tumbled leather is created naturally — by placing full-grain hides into a drum at controlled temperatures for hours. As it tumbles, the leather develops its own organic grain and subtle wrinkles. The result is something alive: no two inches are ever the same.

When creating prototypes, we learned this material wouldn’t hold the structure of some of our more sculptural styles — like the Pear and Mini Pear — without losing shape. We tested several interfacings and eventually found the perfect balance: one that keeps each bag supple yet confident, soft yet composed.

We’re deeply excited about this new direction — and how the tumbled leather line will continue to simplify women’s multitasking lives while honoring the beauty of natural imperfection.

Looking ahead, this material will take center stage at Julhs: about 70–80% of our future pieces will be crafted in tumbled leather, the rest in other carefully chosen materials.

Stay tuned for the pre-order release — we’ll be sharing more on our socials and in upcoming letters.

With love,

Julie
